During a Special School Board Meeting on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, the Broward County School Board selected three finalists to move forward in the national search for a permanent Superintendent of Broward County Public Schools.

Updated Timeline for the Clear Backpacks and Bags Initiative for the 2023/24 School Year 

The Broward County School Board and Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Interim Superintendent invite students, parents, staff and community members to join a School Safety Town Hall regarding the proposed clear backpacks and bags initiative on school campuses beginning in the 2023/24 school year.   

The School Safety Town Hall takes place on Monday, June 12, 2023, at Plantation High School, 6901 N.W. 16th Street, Plantation, Florida 33313. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and the meeting starts promptly at 6 p.m. The event will be livestreamed. The public can share questions or feedback on Twitter @browardschools. 

The purpose of this initiative is to add an additional layer of security across our District for our students, staff and faculty.   

The following School Board Workshop and Special School Board Meeting will take place following the School Safety Town Hall:  

Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at 9 a.m.
School Board Workshop – Discussion on Clear Backpacks and Bags  

Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 8 a.m
Special School Board Meeting – Final Vote on Clear Backpacks and Bags  

These events will provide opportunities for the community to offer feedback regarding requirements for clear backpacks and bags beginning in the 2023/24 school year.

BCPS Superintendent Search Semi-Finalists Provide Video Responses to Pre-Determined Questions

The seven semi-finalists in the School Board of Broward County’s national search for Broward County Public Schools permanent Superintendent have completed the next step in the application process. Thursday, May 25, was the deadline for candidates to submit a video recording responding to three pre-determined questions. The candidate’s videos, as well as their resumes and a complete timeline of the superintendent search process, are available on the District’s website, browardschools.com/supersearch. 

All the candidates were provided with the same questions and had three minutes to respond to each. The videos are being shared with School Board members, who will select the top finalists at a Special School Board Meeting on Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at 8 a.m.
