BCPS JROTC Cadets Gear up for Raider Meet in Preparation for State Championship

WHO:                   
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) JROTC Cadets  

 

WHAT:                 
Approximately 700 JROTC cadets representing high schools across the District will compete in the BCPS JROTC Raider Meet for the chance to qualify for the Army JROTC State Championships. BCPS JROTC Raider Meet events are physically and mentally demanding, requiring strength, stamina, discipline, leadership and teamwork across a set of outdoor adventure tasks.

WHY:                    
The purpose of the Broward County JROTC Raider Meet is to provide cadets a competitive program in five athletic and curriculum events. The events for the state qualifier competition are Raider Fitness Challenge, One-Rope Bridge, Cross-Country Rescue, 5km Team Run and Tire Flip. Supporting objectives include ethical values and good citizenship, leadership potential, effective communication and logical thinking, improved physical fitness, the incentive to live drug-free, positive self-motivation and management, the skills to work as a team member, and motivation to graduate from high school and pursue a successful career.

BCPS Students Participate in Inaugural Leadership and Innovation Summit

WHO:            
Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Students; District Staff; Business Leaders; Nova Southeastern University Faculty and Students; and Representatives from Virtual Enterprise (VE) International and the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE)

 

WHAT:          
BCPS hosts its inaugural Leadership and Innovation Summit for nearly 400 middle and high school students. The event supports students’ entrepreneurial spirits through a half-day summit that includes interactions with world-class business leaders and an exciting Elevator Pitch Competition. During the competition, students present their entrepreneurial ideas to a panel of judges for a chance to win prizes.

The Leadership and Innovation Summit is a partnership between the District’s Career, Technical, Adult and Community Education Department (CTACE), VE International and NFTE.

BCPS Invites Families to Explore the Possibilities at its Magnet Program Expo

Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) invites parents, families and students to learn about school choice options and explore the specialized educational opportunities available at its Magnet Programs Expo. Hosted by BCPS Applied Learning Department, the Magnet Programs Expo takes place on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, at the Nova Southeastern University, Rick Case Arena at Don Taft University Center, 3300 S. University Drive, Fort Lauderdale, 33328, from 6 to 8 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. 

Families can discover the rigorous, award-winning magnet programs that BCPS offers for students in elementary, middle and high school. Magnet programs have specialized curriculum that engages and inspires students for post-secondary opportunities and careers.  

The Magnet Programs Expo will introduce the new Achieving Career Equity for Students (ACES) magnet program. At Mirror Lakes Elementary School, Plantation Middle School and Plantation High School, the program will offer aeronautics and engineering, fashion design, and innovative arts. At Oakland Park Elementary School, James S. Rickards Middle School and Northeast High School, ACES includes aviation, cybersecurity and design. 

In addition, magnet program options range from aviation, biotechnology, communications and broadcast arts, Montessori, pre-law, pre-med, STEM, marine science, International Baccalaureate, performing and visual arts, technical academies and so much more. These are just a few examples of the many school choice options available with magnet programs. 

Parents may apply for their child to attend a magnet program for the 2024/25 school year during the school choice application window, December 1, 2023 – February 2, 2024.
